September 11, 2009 was the eighth year anniversary that recalled the horrors of 9/11/01. But, unlike the past seven 9/11s, this one included a national ‘preparedness drill season’ that mobilized more than 400,000 people in more than 27 states – with 127 practice drills occurring from coast-to-coast.

 

Just why this happened – and the spontaneity of the process – is a remarkable story.

Beantown Team – Liberty Mutual

Beantown Team – Liberty Mutual’s Tom Clark, Wilmer Hale’s Susan Mitchell, Liberty Mutual’s Ken Otis and SAF CEO Len Pagano held a meeting recently to announce a New England ‘task force’ to work on preparedness issues in 2010. Mr. Otis will serve as the groups ‘regional chairman,’ working with FEMA’s Russ Webster to organize a seven-state public/private sector coalition. Chicago ‘Success Summit’

Chicago ‘Success Summit’ – Motorola’s Scott Propp, FEMA’s Janet Odeshoo, Jim Duncan, Jim Opoka and SAF CEO Len Pagano held a two-hour de-briefing with the Foundation’s national task force to review the success of the first ‘Drill Down for Safety’ campaign.
