The Georgia Department of Driver Services requires that full driver education courses consist of a 30-hour classroom portion and six or more hours of Behind-The-Wheel instruction.
The Behind-The-Wheel training is conducted on an individual basis. Students must contact their assigned Behind-The-Wheel instructor directly to schedule the BTW training, which is conducted in 2-hour (mininum) increments. Students will be provided the name and contact information for their Behind-The-Wheel instructor on the first day of classroom instruction.
Behind-The-Wheel instruction is not part of the 30 hours of classroom instruction and cannot take place during the hours that classroom instruction is scheduled.
Students must have a Georgia Learner's Permit to begin the Behind-The-Wheel training. No permit is required to complete the classroom portion.
Completion of the classroom portion of the training is required prior to beginning BTW training, if the student has a learner's permit or operator's license.
BEHIND-THE-WHEEL TRAINING MUST BE COMPLETED WITHIN SIX MONTHS OF THE START OF TRAINING. IF NOT COMPLETED WITHIN THAT TIMEFRAME, THE UNFINISHED PORTION OF TRAINING WILL BE FORFEITED WITHOUT REMUNERATION.
