QuakeSmart News From FEMA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced today that it is partnering in the development of a new initiative, called QuakeSmart, which is designed to encourage business leaders and owners in areas of the U. S. that are at risk from earthquakes to take actions that will mitigate damage to their businesses, provide greater safety for customers and employees, and speed recovery in the event of an earthquake.

Motorola Recommits to Safe America Foundation


This past week, Motorola recommited to the Safe America Foundation and renewed their program with a $200K grant. Motorola Foundation Director of Corporate & Foundation Philathropic Relations, Eileen Sweeny met with Len Pagano at Motorola Headquarters in Schaumburg, IL, talking about plans to expand programming dealing with Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) and addinional technologies used for safety.

"SafeTeen Driving Academy" Sets Pace for Summer Teen Driver Safety

(May 17 – Atlanta Motor Speedway) – More than 750 parents, teens and community leaders attended the third annual “SafeTeen Driving Academy” – conducted by the Safe America Foundation – at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. This year’s event was the second-largest event ever with the Academy’s six “Pit Stops” teaching teens and their parents about topics ranging from safe driving techniques and motorcycle safety to how to avoid being distracted while driving and what insurances are required in Georgia.

Congressman Rob Andrews (D-NJ) thanks Safe America President Len Pagano for the foundation's work in holding a pandemic flu simulation at the Cira Centre last week in Philadelphia. Over 80 organizations including DuPont, Lockheed-Martin and Glaxo Smith Kline participated in the six-hour event.

WorldSafe Executive Briefings in 7 U.S. Cities

Significant health and safety issues continue to plague the world. Safe America has a plan to deal with many of these issues and to lay a framework of community leaders who will marshal forces to deal with emerging health and safety issues. Under the banner WorldSafe, Safe America is building a coalition of business and civic leaders who will carry the program across the globe and build a network of leaders to combat health and safety challenges worldwide.

Michigan Unit Joins Safe America Family

The Michigan Resource Center, formerly the Traffic Safety Association of Michigan (TSAM), is aligning itself with Safe America. Beginning in February, the Lansing-based nonprofit will be known as a Safe America 'operating unit' and also will serve as the Midwest Center for Safe America. The center's staff is pictured on the left with SAF President Len Pagano (2nd from left). Pagano saluted the 40-year-old Michigan nonprofit for its leadership in transportation safety.

NBC Partners with Safe America on Global Safety Campaign

Safe America and NBC are collaborating on WorldSafe - a global safety education campaign - with a goal of launching the first campaign activities in Beijing in conjunction with the network's coverage of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games.

Georgia Teen Wins First America's Safest Teen Driver Drive-Off

JohnDavid Howard of Perry, Georgia, literally drove away with the title of America’s Safest Teen Driver 2007 in the Safe America Foundation teen driving contest, SafeTeen America Driving Challenge held in Roswell, Georgia on December 15. The contest was the first for what is planned to be an annual event.
