Safe America began focusing on preparedness 1999 with a program that addressed domestic and forging travel safety for business executives, those with physical disabilities, senior citizens and students. Over time, this expanded to our current broader focus educating the public on emerging health and safety issues – with a strong emphasis on community resilience.
The Be Safe America campaign was established in 2011 as a five-year initiative by the Safe America Foundation to increase public grassroots readiness. The components of the program include March to 1 Million™’, Text First. Talk Second.™’ and the Safest Kid in America contest.
In a world that seems more divided than ever before, First Spouses are often the most well-liked and respected civic leaders in a community. These attributes make them a natural spokesperson for communicating the value of planning and practicing preparedness amongst the citizens of their state.
Established on the belief that practice makes perfect, the Safe America Foundation’s Pledge to Drill effort is focused on getting Americans to create and drill emergency plans at home or work. Our goal: create a critical mass of people drilling, whereby being prepared for a natural or man-made disaster is the rule, not the exception.
The desire to call loved ones after an emergency or disaster is natural. However, preparedness experts universally agree that during an emergency and its immediate aftermath, communicating via SMS text messaging should be your first choice.
